At UWM, we actively pursue collaborations with the private sector that have the potential to generate new knowledge and strengthen the regional economy.

These collaborations require us to balance two vitally important aspects of our mission as a public educational institution—the need to share knowledge through publication of research results and the duty to support the economy by providing companies with access to commercially valuable UWM technology.

We believe that our standard research agreements balance these priorities and treat our stakeholders—including scholars, the general public and the private sector—in an even-handed manner. Our template research contract gives companies access to intellectual property which arises from the projects that they've sponsored. Our confidentiality agreement protects proprietary information that is provided to UWM by our industry partners for research purposes. We can also share novel research materials under a material transfer agreement.

The Office of Technology Transfer and the UWM Research Foundation work together to negotiate and fine-tune agreements like these with the private sector. You'll find both offices highly responsive to your needs!
